Dr. Gressler's about medical treatment is that patients should be afforded every opportunity to try new, innovative approaches to fighting their cancers. As such, he has served as the principle investigator for a number of studies and trials over the last five years, opening the door for some HOPE patients to have access to cutting edge cancer treatments that gave them hope, when nothing else seemed to be working.
One such patient is Mr. D.H. "Moose" Lanham. As Mr. Lanham explains,
"In August of 2004, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Dr. Gressler told me how bad my situation was, but then took immediate action to beat the odds. By the next morning, he had already fulfilled my request to get into MD Anderson for surgery. More recently, he learned of a new drug in development at the University of Chicago. Through a combination of dedication and doggedness, the HOPE team was able to get me into the research study, and it has produced dramatic results! If Dr. Gressler had not been my doctor, I probably would not be here today."
Dr. Gressler has one staff member responsible for identifying and coordinating all open research projects and trials. Check back frequently to see an updated list of available research opportunities for which you may qualify.
